The innovative educational model developed for the Degree Course in Design (BA) of the Faculty of Design and Art is geared toward the fields of Product Design and Visual Communications. It ties together the theoretical and practical elements of design studies and ensures a tight relationship to later professional life - in production as well as in service-oriented jobs.

Projects offered during the course of study deal with complex questions. They require a thorough critical treatment of the topics at hand and encourage independent research carried out by the students, resulting in innovative and usable solutions. Courses and seminars are integrated into the projects, their content carefully tuned to project topics. Additional technical courses in the workshops complement project work, also encouraging experimental working methods.

Students from around the world study at the Free University of Bozen/Bolzano in the three official languages: Italian, German and English.

The teaching staff is likewise composed of an international mix - young, dynamic and motivated professionals. Teachers of the design subjects are, as designers themselves, in direct contact with the real professional world. They convey this experience in many ways directly to the students. There are no fixed "classes", rather working groups of a maximum of 20 students from various semesters. The non-hierarchical structure and optimal working conditions allow students direct and continuous contact to the teachers. This ensures personal support and supervision of the work of every students.
