The project name Made in Kenya refers to two things: the result — a human powered, locally produced juice extractor for small-scale farmers in rural Kenya and the field trip to Kenya that the project is based on. Many farmers that we met expressed a great interest in adding value to their produce e.g. drying, canning, juicing and marketing to deal with the seasonal oversupply. Since the juice extractor is produced by the jua kali, the large informal manufacturing sector, the local economy is stimulated and makes the product accessible in rural areas at a low cost. BA degree project by Gabriella Rubin and Niklas Kull, 2011.
