The international design world celebrated the best designs of the year: On 15 March 2019 a glamorous award ceremony was held to honor the winners of the iF DESIGN AWARD 2019.
The iF design award night – the design event of the year – attracted more than 2,000 guests from 42 countries to BMW Welt in Munich.
Exceptional design award winners were included in the program: seven companies who were "there from the start" were honored for their successful participation in the iF DESIGN AWARD from 1954 to the present day.
This year's iF design award night, which has now become one of the most important design events in the world, felt like a Who's Who of design. More than 2,000 guests from 42 countries came together at BMW Welt in Munich on 15 March 2019 to celebrate the winners of the iF DESIGN AWARD 2019.
Each year the iF International Forum Design GmbH (Hannover) presents this internationally renowned recognition of good design. An independent jury of 67 experts from 20 countries met in Hamburg in January to choose the winners of the coveted iF DESIGN AWARD 2019 and honored the 66 best works with the iF gold award 2019. The winners were presented with the golden iF sculpture on stage by iF CEO Ralph Wiegmann.
A total of 6,375 entries from 50 countries were registered for the competition in the following disciplines:
Jury Chairman Fritz Frenkler: “We, the jury, were genuinely impressed to see how
high the design quality of many products has become. An acceptable design is
now seen as standard. As is the quality of the workmanship. It is, however,
striking that there is a great desire to follow design benchmarks rather than
daring to try anything really new. It takes a great deal of courage to be truly
innovative and shareholders who are prepared to take a risk. At the same time,
it is not about striving for diversity at any cost – good, clear and intuitive
design is what the user should be offered – in any design discipline!”

iF WORLD DESIGN GUIDE – the largest design portal
All award-winning entries can always be viewed online in the world's largest design portal, the iF WORLD DESIGN GUIDE (Design Excellence) – at any time. It documents the nearly 44,000 products and services that have been presented with an iF award since 1954.
iF design app
This year's iF award-winning submissions were also added to the free iF design app. The last three competition years can be accessed at any time in nearly 20,000 animated images, videos and texts.
iF design exhibition in Hamburg
The award-winning entries will be shown in the iF design exhibition Hamburg, where more than 1,500 square meters of exhibition space will be divided into three sub-exhibitions, each with different categories. The first exhibition will start on 16 March 2019.
iF award winners "there from the start"
Exceptional design award winners were included in the program: The companies Braun GmbH, Jungheinrich AG, Rosenthal GmbH, MAN Truck & Bus AG, WMF Group GmbH, Sartorius AG and SIEMENS AG were honored for their continual and successful participation in the iF DESIGN AWARD from 1954 to the present day. These companies have thus written design history, as they have taken on one of the hardest challenges of good design – longevity!
