Lella Vignelli

Lella Vignelli, United States, studied architecture in Venice and initially worked in Milan. In 1958, she was appointed a tutor at the Cambridge School of Architecture, Massachusetts Institute of Technology. She worked for Skidmore, Owings & Merrill in Chicago and together with Massimo Vignelli in 1960 founded the Vignelli design and achitecture office in Milan. As of 1965 she was head of interior design at the Unimark International Corporation in Milan and New York, before founding Vignelli Associates with Massimo Vignelli in New York in 1971, followed by Vignelli Design in 1978. Her oeuvre is amazingly multifarious, ranging from book design trough transportation and product design to packaging and exhibitions. Her works can be viewed in numerous museums, including the Museum of Modern Art, New York, and the Neue Sammlung in Munich. She has received many distinguished awards, such as an honorary doctorate from the Parsons School of Design, New York, and the Corcoran School of Art, Washington D.C.
