More than 230 guests came together to honor Taiwanese iF award success – despite the pandemic
In times of Covid-19, what makes award-winning designers in Taiwan happier than anywhere else? Being lucky to receive their awards in-person, not by mail – perhaps. And this was indeed the case when the red carpet was rolled out on 31st July this year at the SCCP Taipei and photographers moved in. iF DESIGN ASIA organized a very special night for Taiwan’s best of the best ones. More than 230 guests, among them 82 of 116 iF award winners and other leading personalities of the local design industry, came out to celebrate their award success.
As the coronavirus outbreak spread around the globe and obliged the iF organizers to cancel the annual iF design award night in Berlin in May this year, the office in Taiwan recently took this opportunity to organize their first iF design night in Taipei. Tobie Lee, press officer at iF DESIGN ASIA in Taiwan, said: “We are feeling extremely lucky to be one of the places that can still live a normal live, not to mention to organize a big event”. However, amid clinking glasses, a band playing, cheers and laughter, Covid measures had been carefully observed that night, such as temperature check, mask recommendations and hand sanitizer.
“We are feeling extremely lucky to be one of the places that can still live a normal life, not to mention to organize a big event.”
The event was opened by words of Sean Lee, Managing Director of iF DESIGN ASIA, and Chi-yi Chang, President of Taiwan Design Research Institute. And although Ralph Wiegmann, CEO of iF International Forum Design, wasn’t allowed to attend the event himself due to current travel restrictions, he sent a warm-hearted video message to the audience.
In the course of the night, the guests had the chance to share experience with the iF jurors Shikuan Chen, Edward Chiang and Roger Pin-Si Lin, and representatives of the Chinese Society of Interior Designers. The excitement reached fever pitch with the hand-over of the gold trophies. iF’s Sean Lee said: “It was again a very wonderful iF friends’ gathering. Our guests enjoyed a lot and celebrated their success in winning iF DESIGN AWARD. Looking back the results in the past, Taiwan could be proud of being the creative island. We all look forward to meeting one another in person in Berlin next year.”
