Jebel-Hafeet terrain / Public space

Jebel-Hafeet terrain
Jebel-Hafeet terrain

The site is a steeply-slope, erosion prone site (limestone, sand & rock) in Jebel-Hafeet, Al Ain, U.A.E. The program was to design roofless platforms to be used by the public as a public space for viewing the site, overlooking the city, camping e.t.c. Using the concept of critical regionalism, I design the project in such a way that the platforms emerge from the landscape. The choice of materials, aided the effect. Emphasis was also placed on the stereotomic & tectonic gestures of materials in relation to their function. The sequence from the entry to the end point was arranged to maximize the user’s scenograhic experience of the site.
