S-CARGO is a concept that restructures goods transport in urban areas by using the existing S-Bahn rapid-transit rail network. The previously rigid rail transport becomes a flexible, fast and environmentally friendly alternative to road transport. Outside the city, parcels are transshipped onto self-propelled rail cars that follow the S-Bahn via an electronic tow-bar. A physical contact is not necessary. After automatically decoupling from the train, the rail cars park on a handling rail in the destination area. An electric truck for the road takes over the goods and distributes to the front door.
