Now more than ever, space is the ultimate luxury. One common way to obtain additional storage space while sacrificing little is to lower the level of the ceiling in a room and then hollow out a section between the 'old' level of the ceiling and the new one. This space is then accessed from an adjacent room, the hatch placed above the entrance.
The project seeks to address one of the major shortcomings of this method: the hatch, due to its height, is often quite hard to reach without a ladder. The solution is to build a folding ladder into the doorposts themselves. A light pull will cause the ladder to unfold. Pushing it will fold it.
