Traditional Taiwanese are usually encase their meals with lunch boxes which were made of bamboo to sell to passengers, catching up trains hastily, at train stations; and then that becomes a unique culture of lunch boxes in train stations. People always relate lunch boxes to rice, so we pack rice with bamboo lunch boxes, which symbolize rice, to convey how important rice is in Asians mind.
