Sisyphus' Stone / Clothing

Sisyphus' Stone
Sisyphus' Stone

The topic of this work is an extension of my previous creation, a body installation. Those ideas come from my own experience of backache. Precisely, the pain radiates from “gao-huang”, a Chinese medicine acupunctured point of jing-luo inside the back. It could be associated with a Chinese idiom, “Illness into gao-huang”, which means fatal disease. It reminds me the Greek myth, Sisyphus’ Stone. Both statements are led to a heavy burden on the back especially, emphasizing by the humpback-like contour of the cloth. It brings forth a semantic fantasy, which also corresponds to Susan Sontag’s masterpiece, “Illness as Metaphor”.
