AUXETIC

AUXETIC is a high damping and high stiffness material contains a Micro-scale Replicated Negative Poisson’s ratio (MRNP) aluminum foam core, covered with titanium thin plates on the top and bottom, and a stylishly concave titanium shell along the circumference. The MRNP aluminum foam core provides high damping because of its porous microstructure and, in particular, its re-entrant cell shape to exhibit negative Poisson’s ratio. Interactions between the aluminum core and titanium cover give the stiff, light-weight AUXETIC extra damping capability to reduce unwanted impact or vibration in sport helmets, car bumpers or earthquake absorbers.
