The redesigned collector is made up completely of synthetics: Without the use of copper and aluminum, both price and ecological footprint are greatly reduced and solar thermal systems become available to a broader audience. The build-up resembles a sandwich construction with insulation combs made of synthetic foils, which are - following nature’s example - differentiated in supporting and supported areas. In this way, the material input is intelligently channeled and the lightweight panels are provided with self-supporting qualities. And as the production process allows for variable sizes, architects are enabled to design a unitary cladding.
