"Good morning. Check out this killer wooden bike." (Lance Armstrong on Twitter)
This diploma thesis demonstrates the performance of wood as construction material by designing a functional bicycle frame with the astonishingly little weight of 2,3kg.
The frame is built of hand-made, partly cone-shaped pine tubes, with fibers layered crosswise. They are most likely the lightest and stiffest wooden tubes in the world.
Laminated flat springs of ash wood are absorbing shocks from the road.
The color scheme is designed in the style of classic sport utensils like hockey sticks or tennis rackets.
