Cross country horseback riding is approximately twenty times as dangerous as motorcycle riding, yet has vastly inferior safety equipment. The majority of serious injuries in this sport occur to the neck and spine, which currently-available safety equipment does not adequately protect. The Equestrian Body Protection System (EBPS) protects the ribcage and vital organs like current equipment, but also includes a spine protector with a built-in inflatable neck protector that deploys when the rider becomes separated from their mount. The EBPS is form fitting and lightweight, featuring innovative materials such as d3o and expanded polypropylene.
