Sunday Market, an iconic 600 year old market that caters to the poor, is perfect from a socio-economic context. However, a proposed rich mans market threatens its very existence.
My design aims to maintain the essence of the space and cater to existing stakeholders. Brick and concrete plinths will provide a platform for people to sell their wares, and walkways will tessellate through the space. The canopy of fractal trees entwined with creepers will support itself over time and render the design timeless.
This innovative, modular, customizable and maintenance free design aims to serve as a blueprint for street markets throughout India.
