ATM for BBVA / Automated teller machine (ATM) interface

Discipline: Communication

ATMs were introduced over 40 years ago and since then many features have been added to the machines in order to offer a wide range of transactions. Nevertheless, the actual interaction experience has remained largely untouched. In 2007, the Spanish bank BBVA asked Ideo to re-think their self-service channel: the question was not how to further automate the teller, but rather how to humanize the machine. It took an unprecedented cooperation across the industry to make this vision possible – BBVA, IDEO, NCR and Fujitsu. In 2009, the first units have been installed, while the team prepares to roll out the ATM across their Spanish branches.
