Fashions repeat. Fashion repeats. We're constantly borrowing from the old, re-interpreting the yesterdays or simply discovering things again. In Fashion, nothing has been left untried. But what is it exactly that is repeating? What are the elements that we're constantly going back to? Could it be put into a system? Is there a matrix, a set of rules that describes how fashion trends develop or change? These are the questions that I wanted to address with my thesis project (diploma) in fashion design: I break up clothes conceptually into modules of style, comfort and functionality, so that they can be recombined by the customer today, the user.
