The unique suspension railway Schwebebahn, a masterpiece of engineering from the end of the19th century and a landmark of the city of Wuppertal, needs new trains by 2013. In cooperation with the operating company (WSW) and in close collaboration with Wuppertals citizens, a user-centered concept for the new trains was developed. Based on insights from user-centered research with users such as blind people, mothers with babies and elderly people, as well as a self-experiment with an age-suit, a forward-looking interior concept was developed that meets these special requirements and fulfills the needs of an aging society.
