Ergonomic aspects are one of the most important considerations in designing backpacks. Despite the fact that the weight of a backpack must be 10 to 15 percent of whole body weight, statistics illustrates vast majority of elementary school students carry over-weighted backpack (more than 15 percent of their body weight). POCOYO backpack has been designed for students at year one, two and three (both genders). It has three main features; (1) the dimensions are based on Iranian anthropometric data, (2) the interior has been partitioned resulted in a specific weight has been dedicated to each compartment and (3) the location of shoulder straps creates a much better feel and low weight. In addition, the standard aspects such as waist straps, a foam seating cover and padded shoulders straps have been fully considered. The backpack has also got a separable part, making it suitable to take to school of having it in a party.
Aesthetic appeal along with some other major specifications have been examined and assessed by elementary student through a User-Centreed Design (UCD) process.
