Ecological Sanitation is a process of safely re-using human waste as a source of nutrients for the benefit of agriculture. The separation and collection of faeces and urine at the source prevents the pollution of water sources that are usually contaminated by the run-off of the waste.
With the addition of an ash mixture, solar heating and ventilation all harmful pathogens are destroyed in the container. The sealed containers can be transported from the source to a secondary treatment area to eliminate any human contact with the waste.
This offers both Economic and Environmental Sustainability to rural areas in developing countries.
