interpretation

I tried to interpret the old master ‘The Arnolfini marriage’ by using visual language. This project aims to understand hidden meanings in famous paintings. Therefore, I investigated hidden meaning of each object in the painting. And then, I replaced both objects themselves and their hidden meanings with graphic symbols. For instance, ‘the burning candle’ is a symbol of ‘Christianity’. I made graphic symbols of both ‘the burning candle’ and ‘Christianity’. I created a poster with graphic symbols. I applied different levels of scale and opacity to graphic symbols, according to importance of symbols in the painting.
