This device is designed to read in the dark. A transistor is charged by turning the crank. The transistor delivers three Power-SMDs with energy. The light is emitted using a surface which is made up of an Optical Light Film (OLF). The OLF reflects the light until it has a specific angle to the OLF. When it has the specific angle the light can cross the OLF. The OLF looks like a surfice light. The bookmark is ca 3mm thick and rounded on the sides so it can be put into the book after reading.
