Students at the University of Hannover, in cooperation with Nicolai GmbH, designed the aQrad: a motorized bicycle raced at the HAWK Hildesheim. The aQrads unique motor design has an unusually low center of gravity, which lead to an improvement in the aQrads overall handling. A unique transmission design connects the 2 power drills with the light weight composite gear belt and rear axle. This gear belt, combined with the 8 gear hub in the rear axle, helps the aQrad achieve top speeds of above 30 km/h. The aQrad is able to harmoniously fit together by utilizing a CNC mill to create custom parts in the chassis for the space intensive motor.
