This playful device is metaphorical play on an Chinese ornament called a jue-a penannular jade ring which symbolizes separation. Inspired by the artifact, Jue is a pocket-sized tape dispenser that is designed for portability. The function of this device is exactly that, to separate pieces of tape from the roll. Jue is noteworthy for its simplicity of form and function. Any standard roll of tape can be clamped into this two-piece device. It is simple to use and grasp with two fingers, which also serve as a spindle. The open-endedness of the ring is not only symbolic in form but also functional as a slit indicating how much of the roll remains.
