There is an interesting parallel between the struggles of Modern Chinese artists and those of the Tibetan monks performing peace protests for their nation's independence. Under the oppression of China's communist state, both groups are struggling for independence and their right to express their very identities. Under such circumstances, both Chinese artists and the Tibetan peace protestors have learned to "Speak loudly in whispers." On the very site of an ancient Tibetan Buddhist temple, I propose to provide a space in which Chinese artists may push the limits of their expressive freedoms.
