For engineers, the golf-ball idea was simply amazing; for anyone interested in typography, electronic type control was a revelation: finally it was possible to have a balanced typeface, with the M given more space than the I. Eliot Noyes’ organic design appealed to many people. An icon that would soon be replaced by the PC.
