Intepretive Centre

The project attempts to portray the image of Shanghai to the world where new ideas and technologies are bursting out of the old shell of the traditional city. It also explores efficient structural systems and assembly and materials that enable the ease of construction and reuse after the EXPO. A single system is used throughout the project, with variations in size, height and membrane type. Operable louvers at the roof vent are open for ventilation in summer and closed to keep heat in winter. The double membrane provides additional shade from the sun in summer system and can be inflated to provide better insulation against cold temperatures.
