Litracon - Light Transmitting Concrete is a new and widely applicable building material offering the phenomena of translucent concrete. It is a mixture of optical fibres and fine concrete and can be used as prefabricated blocks or panels in architecture and design. Thousands of optical fibres run parallel to each other between the two main surfaces of every block. The proportion of the fibres is pretty small compared to the total volume and they mingle in the concrete as a kind of modest aggregate. The surface of the blocks therefore still reminds of homogeneous concrete. A Litracon structure can be load-bearing as well.
