Wheels of Change / Girls' Education, Buffalo Bicycles, Rural Mobility

Wheels of Change is the first randomized controlled study to assess the impact of World Bicycle Relief’s Bicycles for Educational Empowerment Program, which provides specially designed Buffalo Bicycles to students to improve access to education in rural developing regions where distance is a barrier. The results showed among othersthat 1,112 girls with bicycles:
- Had reduced absenteeism by 28% & reduced commute time by 33%
- Had increased punctuality by 66%,
- Were 33% less likely to drop out of school.
The results suggest that giving girls access to bicycles can increase school attendance, self-confidence & lead to better learning outcomes
