The Washing Machine Project / Water and Sanitation, Gender Empowerment, Refugees

TWMP is dedicated to designing, developing and distributing low-cost, water-saving, manual washing machines to provide displaced and low income people with an alternative to handwashing clothes. 70% of the world’s population do not have access to a washing machine. Hand-washing clothes can take up to 20 hours/week, and is a burden often disproportionately placed on women. Our off-the-grid washing machine, named the Divya, saves time, water and effort, reducing clothes washing demands by 15 hours/week, freeing up time for individuals to pursue other activities which enrich their livelihood, communities and the wider economy.
