In Uganda, large parts of the population live in extreme poverty, with less than 1.90 USD per day and a life expectancy of around 60 years.
To address this problem, we developed the Stay Bee Programme, in which small farmers are trained and equiped as beekeepers. To date, we have successfully trained over 300 beekeepers in Uganda. Beekeeping has developed into a promising measure that enables farmers to earn a substantial additional income with little time and material input. Part of the training costs must be paid back so that new beekeepers can be trained. This turns a classic donation-based project into a self-sustaining programme.
