The project aims to reduce poverty in this slum community by supporting 82 vulnerable girls to enrol in primary school and supporting their families to set up a small sustainable business.
George Brook is home to over 25,000 people, yet it has no government supported primary school, no secondary school, no hospital and lacks sanitation and clean water sources. Education opportunities remain limited and poverty is a major barrier to children, especially for girls, accessing and staying in school. Out-of-school children are particularly vulnerable to child labour and exploitation and remain trapped in the cycle of poverty.
