Umbrella of life / Concepts

Umbrella of life

A large amount of garbage stranded together with the melting of glaciers have become huge threats to the fragile ecology of the Arctic. The polar bears will eventually genocide in 2100 due to the lack of rest in their hunting process.
This work aims to collect garbages on the Arctic Ocean and create a “floating ice”for polar bears. The entire work uses the structure of a traditional Chinese oil-paper umbrella. When floating on the sea, as the collection of garbage increases and the gravity becomes larger, the umbrella will gradually expand on the sea, creating a piece of "floating ice" for the polar bears to save their precarious lives.
