Thermal burns are traumatic, excruciating and often referred to as the most uncomfortable of all injuries for patients. They require repeat treatments and long-term therapy which causes significant and ongoing distress. The social pressures to step away from opioid-based pain management due to an epidemic of prescription opioid misuse combined with other undesirable side effects highlight the need to find another solution. What if there was a way to use distraction to manage pain during these burns treatments?
This design presents a solution. A clinically appropriate Virtual Reality headset that aims to shift the paradigm of pain management.
