Invasive plant Lantana camara, reduced the regeneration of native species by 40%, impacted flora and fauna. To address this we initiated enterprise-based conservation, to help the community turn lantana into furniture and household products. The Lantana crafts initiative contributed both to forest conservation and provided livelihoods for a marginalized community. We have trained over 650 people across India in lantana crafts; 40% of these are women. The artisans have been able to make beautiful artistic life-size elephants, a testament to their craftsmanship. These trained artisans derive nearly 80% of their cash income from lantana crafts.
