Moving out of the family home is something we recognise as a milestone of adulthood, but this rite of passage can be denied to young people with disability. They often have no option but to stay with their parents, or move into highly unsuitable accommodation like aged care homes.
In four share houses, we support young adults with disability to live independently, with like-minded housemates they have chosen. Our innovative family governance model design ensures housemates, family members or advocates have control over how the house is run. Our growing waitlist tells a story of success, and demand. We aim to grow to over 100 houses.
