Education in Myanmar / Mother Tongue Education

Education transforms lives. United World Schools works in some of the world's poorest regions to give every child access to free education. We partner with local communities around the world to establish schools and teach the unreached.

We have worked in Myanmar since 2013, opening 68 schools in the Shan State so far with 3,807 students enrolled. These students are taught by a team of 200+ teachers, including 124 who have been employed and trained from within the local community. Hiring local teachers offers ethnic minority students a unique opportunity to learn in their mother tongue and thus access the Burmese-only education system.
