At the very start of COVID lockdown, Hillel - an NGO supporting Jewish students and young people, launched a volunteer service aiming to help elderly people and at-risk members of communities in Russia. Such a programmatic pivot was a response to young people’s often unspoken impulse to change the world for the better (Jewish values of justice and “repairing the world”). Hillel addressed participants of its cultural programs of previous years to stand together and join forces to help mitigate the risks of lockdown to elderly people and support local communities. Results: 7 cities, 381 volunteers, 5983 beneficiaries, 18 partner organizations.
