CAPTN Vaiaro
Green ferry system
This project creatively imagines the future of public transport on the Kiel Fjord in Northern Germany. The city of Kiel is growing rapidly, creating a major challenge for city planners who hope to reconcile an efficient transportation network with the city's ambitious climate goals. It is obvious that the ferry traffic between the west and east shores of Kiel Fjord will grow in frequency. CAPTN Vaiaro, which stands for Clean Autonomous Public Transport Network, is designed to integrate the ferry crossing into the city's clean mobility network. Two different designs permit rapid carriage of buses and cyclists/pedestrians across the Fjord.
This project takes a highly creative and innovative approach to public transport, imagining how a car-free city can nonetheless span two sides of a major waterway.
