Tlaloc / Water system design


With climate change, the global water crisis is becoming more severe. Cities’ scale offers the opportunity to tackle this issue at the individual level and have a global impact. We designed an integrated solution to empower citizens by making water distribution fair and participatory with an individual IoT smart meter system to provide real-time consumption data, a cap-and-trade water currency system to distribute water rights equally, and a smartphone application designed using behavioral science to educate on sustainable individual water consumption. For our first prototype, we focused on the complex and unequal water system of Mexico City.
