Local currency contributes to local economic development, independently issued in a specific region and inducing consumption within the region. SEOROEUM is an electronic local currency brand in Seo-gu, Incheon that combines a mobile app with prepaid cards. The branding has geometric Hangul as its base type. It is designed as a communication medium between residents (consumers) and small businesses (producers), using curves representing Seo-gu’s sunrise and traditional market streets. To include participation into the design, the branding was selected by residents and small businesses. The Seo-gu brand is used to strengthen residents’ sense of belonging and revitalize commercial districts.
