PET Recycling and Women Empowerment / plastic pollution, women empowerment, environment

The PET Recycling project aims to reduce plastic pollution in developing countries, where it is a massive problem due to the lack of organized recycling procedures. It creates an income for local communities and boosts women's empowerment. The project has a powerful social and environmental impact, creating a self-sustained small-scale industrial process. It involves local people who collect plastic bottles around the city and bring them to a collecting center where only women are employed. The plastic bottles are processed into large bales or flakes and sold. The income generated is reinvested in the project. Active in Uganda and Ethiopia.
