Finding Grace / Testing for deafblindness

Children who are both deaf and blind face huge challenges. Many are hidden away from the world, as parents struggle to understand what challenges their child faces or how to communicate with them. In Sense International’s early intervention programme in Kenya and Uganda, 108,183 infants aged 0-3 were tested for multisensory impairments by specially trained staff. We equipped 2 hospitals and 6 health centres to test and identify sensory impairments. With rubella being a cause of deafblindness, data collected contributed to the government of Uganda starting its first vaccination programme against rubella for over 19 million children.
