India Flood Response 2017 / Built resilient homes to cope with floods

India Flood Response 2017
India Flood Response 2017

SEEDS through its India Flood Response 2017 built flood resilient homes for the flood affected communities in Assam. These homes have concrete foundation for each bamboo column that digs down 3-feet deep, anchoring the house in the soft soil. Cross-bracing adds to the stability. The entire structure is put together with bamboo nails that are durable without cause no damage. These homes have proven to be resilient against floods for two consecutive years since then. The intervention is based on the organisation's build back better approach including complete community collaboration.
