Eat local. Eat fresh. Stay healthy. Ekam Foundation's Sustainable Waste Management, Awareness, and Nutrition Through Gardens (SWANG) promotes nutrition and local sustainable consumption by setting up kitchen gardens in government-funded schools, creches, primary health centres and other government facilities. The produce, more than 150 kg per harvest, was used in the mid-day noon meal scheme for the children. The waste was used to create compost, for a sustainable cycle of nutrition.
Ekam set up 41 kitchen gardens across Tamil Nadu, India in August 2019 and trained the staff of the institutions in maintaining the garden.
