Tunisia is going through a post-revolutionary and complex transition phase, characterized by a difficult economic take-off and by a worsening of safety conditions. Rural areas are the poorest and the feminization of poverty is evident. Although many women's social cooperatives were formed after the revolution, they still struggle to develop in the long term and achieve real autonomy, failing to exploit their potential.
