Improving Wildfire Management in Mt Kenya Forest / We support wildfire prevention and suppression

The Kenya Forest Service (KFS) and communities have insufficient fire management capacities to manage large wildfires that have caused huge loses to forests, wildlife, human lives and property in Mt. Kenya forest. FIREMAPS project conducted 8 workshops and trained 50 KFS and 300 community members to monitor and fight wildfires. It equipped them with 30 fire beaters, 30 pairs of hand cloves and 30 nose masks. It developed, printed and disseminated 1400 fire management brochures, policy brief, 5000 seasonal fire calendars and 240 fire danger maps to help identify fire hot spots, support fire prevention and firefighting in Mt. Kenya forest.
