Improving Wildfire Management in Mt Kenya Forest / We support wildfire prevention and suppression

The Kenya Forest Service (KFS) and communities have insufficient capacities to manage uncontrolled wildfires that have caused huge losses to forests, wildlife, human lives and property in Mt. Kenya forest. FIREMAPS project has conducted 8 workshops and trained 50 KFS and 300 community members to monitor and fight wildfires. It has equipped them with 30 fire beaters, 30 pairs of hand cloves and 30 nose masks. It has developed, printed and disseminated 1400 fire management brochures, policy briefs, 5000 seasonal fire calendars and 240 fire danger maps to help identify fire hot spots, support fire prevention and firefighting in Mt. Kenya forest.
