iF DESIGN TALENT AWARD_01 2020

ETNISK is a perishable food storage concept that combines various traditional techniques to extend the shelf life of fruits and vegetables without consuming energy. Southern Spain, known for exporting fresh fruits and vegetables, was the source of inspiration for ETNISK. The idea to recreate perfect containers that keep fresh food fresh without consuming energy. Different containers provide the ideal storage conditions for different types of fruit and vegetables, depending on the climate in which they are grown.

This design draws its inspiration from traditional techniques of food storage and preservation. The designer quite rightly asks whether modern technology is always the best solution – especially when we look at the problem holistically. The rediscovery of tried and tested traditions has the potential to help us solve many of the thorniest problems of resource management.
