Environmental protection

RE-HABITAT, made of dead coral, is a modular coral rehabilitation system impregnated with coral seedlings. Its form is spherical as this is the most stable structure to withstand ocean currents. This product can support the recovery of coral reefs that have been severely damaged by blast fishing and coral mining. This relatively inexpensive technique is inobtrusive and likely over time to blend in fully with the seabed ecosystem as it is colonized by symbiotic algae and inhabited by various sea life.

JURY STATEMENT

This design project addresses the rehabilitation of coral reefs by combining existing materials (dead coral) and new design system. The solution is therefore organic, circular and highly modular.

WINNER STATEMENT

Thanks to our professor Yan Ting Chen. We hope that our work becomes part of a renewed focus on environmental issues by designers.
