Smart garment bringing attention to breathing

Breathing is the fundamental rhythm of life, the ebb and flow of energy in the body. Proper breathing technique is crucial for optimal health and the attention to breathing is the base of living mindfully. To breath correctly means to expand all three parts - abdomen, diaphragm and chest fully. I created a tool aimed to bring attention to incorrect breathing and help to reteach one’s breathing patterns. I designed a smart textile, using conductive fabric and Arduino. Conductive fabric is sewn into the textile in the ''three'' areas. Data from the fabric's stretch is sent to the device in the form of light. The goal is to reach balance.

WINNER STATEMENT

I am feeling incredibly proud to win the If Design Talent Award and I am excited to receive this acknowledgment as I hope it will help me to develop this idea even further, execute it in the real world and fulfill the original aim of this design: to help people to slow down and heal their bodies. My advice to all students is: Do not keep your projects full of potential in the drawer, present them to people, world needs your ideas!
